- Patched version of Arcmail by
- Rob Elliott
- Fido 115/100
-
- Introduction
- ------------
- ARCMAIL.EXE Version 0.60 runs the program ARC during its processing to
- compress the mail packets. This patch will cause ARCmail to use PKARC
- (Version 1.2) and PKXARC (Version 3.3) instead. These operate about 5
- times faster than ARC itself.
-
-
- Installation
- ------------
- 1. Rename PKARC.COM to PKA.COM.
-
- 2. Rename PKXARC.COM to PKX.COM.
-
- 3. Make sure PKA.COM and PKX.COM are within the PATH when ARCmail is
- running.
-
- 4. Copy ARCMAIL.EXE to ARCMAIL.OLD. (safety backup)
-
- 5. Rename ARCMAILP.EXE to ARCMAIL.EXE
-
- 6. Store ARCMAIL.OLD for safekeeping and use ARCMAIL.EXE in place of
- it for your processing.

- Notes on Version 0.60PK
- -----------------------
- This latest version of ARCmail supports the G)arble option of ARC. PKARC
- and PKXARC, however, do not support this (in their current versions).
- Thus, the garble option will be ignored.
-
-
- Technicalities
- --------------
- 0.60PK will execute these commands:
-
- PKA m%s %s %s
-
- The first %s is a 'g' followed by the password if Garble is
- enabled. In its current version, PKARC will just ignore it.
- The second %s is the Arc name, the third the packet name.
-
- PKX/r%s %s
-
- The first %s is the Garble command again. As with PKARC, it
- should be ignored by PKXARC. The second %s is the Arc name.
-
- The other patches include changing the banner to reflect the PK patches,
- and removing the information on the /Garble option.
